Stewardship is ALIVE at Sacred Heart
We Are The Disciples of Christ

Prayer is essential to the life of a Christian Steward. Our prayer helps us to be better aware of God’s goodness in our lives.
Prayer is also essential to one’s conversion and continues to challenge us to be better Christians.
Lent is the liturgical season that helps us prepare for the Passion of Christ.
Many times people like to do something special, especially in the area of prayer, to help them set apart this season from the ordinary. Below is a list of possible ideas that could be incorporated into daily household routines.
During this Lenten season let us allow ourselves the opportunity to grow closer to our baptismal call.

* Write a Family Prayer while sharing a meal.
Use this prayer during the Easter season.

* Teach your family how to pray the Rosary.
Come together once a week to pray Rosary.

* Develop a routine for children to do chores around the house and contribute their earnings toward a special need or project for the poor.

During this Easter season let us give ourselves the opportunity
to grow closer to our baptismal call.

Stewardship Prayer
Generous and loving God, You call us to be disciples of your Son Jesus
and good stewards of all your many gifts.
Open our minds and hearts to a greater awareness and deeper appreciation of your countless blessings.
Transform us through the power of your Spirit
to nurture a Stewardship way of life marked by faith-filled prayer,
service to our neighbor and generous sharing.
Teach us to be faithful servants of your gifts.
With Mary’s help, may we return ten-fold the gifts entrusted to us.
Bless our Sacred Heart parish with a deepening devotion to prayer,
a growing commitment for service,
and increasing levels of generosity
as we work to advance the mission of our parish.
We pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen

We are thankful for all the good stewardship efforts we see at Sacred Heart. We have an active Stewardship Committee that welcomes new members. Please contact Cathy Mills 234-6593 ext 208 if interested in hearing more about this vibrant area of parish life.

SACRED HEART STEWARD OF THE MONTH

BEN HOGAN

“Well done, good and faithful servants.”
(Matt. 25:21)

A Man of Many Seasons
Sacred Heart's Steward of the Month of May has served this parish
in many seasons of his life. From 1952 to 1978, Ben Hogan, an award-winning Toastmaster, was first and foremost a lector. He was also actively involved in the implementation of Vatican II and served on the first Parish Council.

He and his wife, Doris, were also very engaged during this time with the rearing and educating of their eight children: Steve, Mary Ann, Brian, Joe, David, Jane, Ellen and John, all of whom were baptized, received their First Communions here and attended Sacred Heart School.

In 1978, two years after Ben was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis
at the Mayo Clinic, he was transferred by Iowa Public Service to Sioux City, where he became involved at Blessed Sacrament Parish. He served there as president of the Holy Name Society and was a lector, until returning to Waterloo and Sacred Heart in 1991, upon his retirement.

He resumed his stewardship, scheduling Eucharistic Ministers,
lectors, ushers and servers with the assistance of a software package he found on the Internet. In the autumn of his life, Ben remained active until stricken by a stroke nearly eight years ago and has been homebound since then. His ministry now is praying for the people of Sacred Heart Parish.
