Major Parish Event & Fundraiser: Fall Festival
2007
Our annual parish festival will be held on Sunday, September 23rd from 11:00am-2:30pm. Please help make this festival our best ever - come eat, drink, & be merry!! Great food, crafts, raffle prizes, games, and much more!
Baptism Class
Saturday, September 8th from 9:30am-noon in the rectory classroom. Call the rectory to register for this class 234-4996.
CCD Registration for students attending public schools (grades 1-8) is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 12th at 6:30pm. Parents and guardians are asked to attend a special information session in the gym. This is the first night of class! Students will be going to classrooms for an introductory lesson to meet our new Queen of Peace friends who are joining our program this year!
Registration forms are mailed to families who had children enrolled last year. New CCD families and families with in-coming first graders are asked to contact Cathy Mills at 234-8394 for more information or plan to come register your child(ren) on Sept. 12th. It is important that you are a registered member of Sacred Heart Parish. New families are asked to bring a copy of your child's baptismal certificate at the time you enroll in classes. The Religious Education staff looks forward to seeing you on Sept. 12th!
RCIA (Christian Initiation of Adults)
If there is someone you know who may be interested in learning more about the Catholic faith, please give their name to Pam Johnston. You may also choose to personally invite them to attend an information session on Wednesday, Sept. 19 from 6:30-8:00pm at Queen of peace Parish, Scallon Hall (church basement). This meeting will explain more about the adult initiation process, answer questions, and outline the schedule. Inquirers are not pressured to make any commitment at this meeting. Friends and spouses are also welcome to attend.
If you are interested in meeting our prospective candidates and willing to share some time as a parish companion, please contact Pam (234-8394) or Julie (292-1500). You may find that this is a very rewarding ministry and even become updated in Catholic teachings and practices yourself!
RCRA (Rite of Christian Reception of Adults)
The metro Waterloo parishes have developed a process known as RCRA. It is an adaptation of the Rite of Christian Initiation, designed for adults who have already been baptized and catechized in a mainline Christian church. RCRA is a shorter period of discernment and preparation which concentrates on the distinctive characteristics, rituals, and teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. RCRA begins with an information meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 19 from 6:30-8:00pm at Queen of peace Parish, Scallon Hall (church basement) Sessions are scheduled for Thursday evenings, October 5-November 29 and will meet between at Blessed Sacrament in Putz Hall. It will conclude with a profession of faith and celebration of Confirmation and First Communion during a Sunday Mass on a date of your choice. Please call Pam at 234-8394 to set up an appointment to register for these sessions.
Youth Choir Camp!
Students in grades 2-6 (or who have been part of the choir in the past) are invited to attend a "Choir Camp" on Saturday, September 22 from 9:00-11:30am in the church. We have a great time learning new music and preparing to lead music at weekend Masses. Please join us!
A First Reconciliation Parent meeting will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 26 from 6:30-7:45 in the church dining room. Parents with second grade children planing to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation should attend this session. If unable to attend, please call Pam at 234-8394 to make an appointment to receive the materials.
Little Rock Scripture Study
The ITTLE ROCK SCRIPTURE STUDY date is changed to Tuesdays, starting SEPT. 25, 2007
Have you ever wondered what the Catholic Church teaches about the Book of Revelation?
All are welcome to join this eight week study of the Book of Revelation, Tuesdays from September 25 through November 13, 9:00 am to 10:30 am in O’Hagan Hall. Taped teachings by Catholic Scripture Scholars will guide discussions led by trained facilitators. The fee is $10.00 to cover the cost of the study guide and materials. Preregistration is not necessary but is helpful for planning. No prior study is required and walk ins are welcome. Call the parish office: 234-4996 to register.
Blood Drive at Sacred Heart Saturday, Oct. 6, 2007
9 am to 1 PM.
The Blood Center of Iowa will provide an opportunity to donate blood. Sign up sheets will be available in the Jubliee Entrance starting the weekend of Sept. 15 / 16 or call Nancy Aldrich: 319-610-3562.
