Adults & Young Adults Take Note!!
The Catholic Parishes in Waterloo will sponsor a summer evening adult formation series beginning July 9.
The parishes' "Summer at the Cellar" series will take place at the Cellar Bar in downtown Waterloo and will feature presentations on immigration, young adults, American politics and St. Paul.
This year's series will be similar to last year's "Summer at the Cellar" programs which were well attended, according to Dave Cushing, director of adult formation for the Waterloo parishes. He said the format, topics and environment for the Cellar series are designed to take advantage of the more casual atmosphere and less hectic schedule of the summer season.
Here is the schedule of speakers and topics for the "Summer at the Cellar" series:
• Wednesday, July 9. "What Immigrants Have Taught Us About Faith and Justice," presented by Sr. Mary McCauley BVM and Paul Rael of St. Bridget Parish in Postville.
• Wednesday, July 23. "Five More Things Parents and Grandparents Should Know About Young Adults," presented by Kevin Feyen, director of young adult ministry for the Archdiocese of Dubuque.
• Wednesday, August 6. "Should We Fear the 'Christian Right'?--The Role of Faith in American Politics," presented by Dr. Harold Wohl, president of the Board, Sons of Jacob Synagogue in Waterloo.
• Wednesday, August 13. "'No Longer I, But Christ Lives in Me' -- The Message of St. Paul's Gospel
of Freedom," presented by Dr. Paulette Skiba BVM, Associate Professor of Religious Studies at Clarke College in Dubuque.
The programs are open to adults and young adults of all ages. There is no charge. Beverages and food will be available before, during and after the programs.
The Cellar Bar is located on the lower level of CU Restaurant at 320 East Fourth Street in Waterloo. Access is limited for physically handicapped persons.
